Dolphin Man VR by Benoît Litché immerses the viewer – literally –, with three 360° videos/VR experiences, into three defining aspects of free diving in the footsteps of Jacques Mayol and what it might have to teach all of us.

As a companion piece of the documentary film Jacques Mayol – Dolphin Man directed by Lefteris Charitos, Dolphin Man VR is a virtual reality project. Each of the three 360° videos is 6 minutes long and focuses on one element of free diving: Dive, Search and Breathe. The athletes' voices are guides throughout the 360° film. The viewer gets to share the protagonists’ sensory perception while living his own experience. The soundtrack is made of direct sounds (the waves, the sperm whales’ clicking sounds, the divers’ hyperventilating). These sounds are recorded through several binaural microphones (for spatialized sound) to strengthen this dreamlike, immersive voyage of discovery. These remarkable divers move through almost unreal dimensions that will be conveyed through a variety of filming techniques and camera angles (aerial, land and underwater).
