by Frédéric Deslias, produced by Le Clair Obscur
2018

#EXOTERRITOIRES is a walking show that invites 20 spectators-actors to put on a suit and take an active part in the exploration of an exoplanet, led by an astronaut trained in exobiology. Up to 80 spectators accompany this procession.

#EXOTERRITOIRES is a nomadic arts/sciences show that extrapolates contemporary issues, images, technologies and data from space research into our imaginations to change our view of our planet in the light of exobiology and exoplanets.

Resulting from the collaboration between a director and digital artist, Frédéric Deslias, a science fiction author, Norbert Merjagnan, an actress, Jana Klein, and researchers from CNES / Space Observatory, Caroline Freissinet in particular,

#EXOTERRITOIRES proposes to disturb, to search, to reformulate the gaze in order to open the field of exobiological exploration to the most unsuspected sensory and cultural spectra.

"Reopening our gaze on earth to prepare it for the unspeakable of extraterrestrial environments does not require exoticism. On the contrary, the wanderings will set foot in disused spaces, in spaces of daily life revisited, empty, populated or overcrowded. Simulating the pioneering exploration of new unknown territories, following rigorous scientific study protocols, the crews of spectator-explorers will experience a redesign of the gaze, in search of traces, traces of life, traces of symbiosis or parasitism, traces of intelligence.

This exploratory stroll opens the field of a new geological era and art-science encounter: the exo(s)cene. Creating a shift of parallel realities and mise-en-abîme, it leads to a circular journey that brings us back to the starting point, with a new ability to see:

What if the earth was a habitable exoplanet?"

-Norbert Merjagnan
